Young Kiwi soldiers, lying so quietly,
merged into the rotting jungle floor.
Spaced in a line, rifles in hand,
machine guns steady, silent and still.

A quiet night in the barracks,
around midnight he starts it again,
he’s yelling about some damned ambush,
and calling some Viet woman’s name.
