The shoe factory

Yes we are well into our tour and our old platoon sergeant [Gary] has sadly become a casualty and is sent back to New Zealand. Barry…our new platoon sergeant is waiting for us when we return from our op. He appears to me to be a little apprehensive and this did not evoke a good feeling .

Remember the enemy wear black pyjamas!

Remember the movie We were soldiers starring Mel Gibson, and the scene where the soldiers are all moving to the embarkation point to leave for Viet Nam. The departure is happening in the wee small hours of the morning. Husbands are kissing their wives and children goodbye.

The dreaded bunker battle!

You know when you are in trouble. It is somewhat like the build-up of an impending storm. The air becomes heavy, oppressive. You begin to feel unease. There is this air of anxiety.
