Brian Wilson checks a Vietnamese civilian's identification card, 1967

Brian Wilson deployed to Vietnam in 1967 from Singapore as part of the original Victor Company, RNZIR. A member of 1 Platoon, Brian was a rifleman attached to 6RAR, then 2RAR in Nui Dat. He took part in search and destroy patrols, day and night ambushes, village and beach sweeps, and village relocation operations. In this photograph, Brian checks a Vietnamese civilian's identity card, while Reihana (Rags) Paki stands guard in the background.

Listen to Brian talk about the heavily-armed Douglas AC-47 Spooky gunship, known by soldiers in Vietnam as 'Puff the Magic Dragon'.
