MID
Enlisted in the New Zealand Army on 1 April 1965. Served with 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry (1RNZIR), 1965–1967. Completed 1966 tour to Borneo, and served with Victor 1 (V1) Company in Vietnam, May 1967 to November 1967 before returning to New Zealand. Posted back to 1RNZIR in 1968. Returned to Vietnam with Whiskey 2 (W2) Company in February 1969. Mentioned in despatches (MID) for helping repel an enemy attack on W2 position during Operation Federal. Read citation for MID.
