Enlisted in the New Zealand Army as an Regular Force (RF) Cadet in Andrews Class, January 1966. Graduated into the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (RNZIR). Posted to 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR) and deployed to Vietnam with Whiskey 2 (W2) Company in November 1968. Selected to assist the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) for two months to train South Vietnamese military forces at Hoa Long. Returned to New Zealand in 1970. Passed Regular Officers Selection Board (ROSB) in 1971, and graduated from Officer Cadet School (OCS) Portsea in December 1971. Later served in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Retired at the rank of Major in the mid-1980s. Died in Brisbane, Australia.
