Loading L5 Howitzer Loading L5 Howitzer M113 armoured personnel carrier

Gunners from 161 Battery RNZA move a L5 Howitzer gun into the back of a M113 armoured personnel carrier (APC) at Nui Dat, circa 1966. The L5 was a very portable weapon – weighing 1300 kilograms it was light enough to be carried by a helicopter and, as is shown here, compact enough to fit inside a M113 APC.

The photographs above were taken by Sgt David Roberts (1937–2005).
