Shipwreck at Vung Tau, circa 1969

The Greek-registered Idannis K was a former US Liberty ship, which ran aground on Back Beach, Vung Tau in 1967. Although the USN was prepared to re-float the vessel, the owners decided against it. Not long after, a mysterious fire ravaged the ship.

By 1969, the rusting hulk was being used as a diving platform. One entered by climbing the bow anchor chain, skirted the many holes from the fire in the deck, and dived off the stern when the tide was in.
