I'm a RNZN Vet 1968-1989. Lt Retired E19301. Also the brother of the late Pte JS Williams RNZ Infantry #41530, killed in action Vietnam 17 Jun 1969 Age 20 yrs. Jack was a soldier in Victor 4 Company and it was his first action in VN in which he was killed.
Victor 4 vets have adopted my family into their family and I try to attend their regular re-unions. They have been very supportive of my family over the last 43 yrs since VN deployment.
On April 27th, 2012, there was a special unveiling of a plaque and new flagpole at The Terrace School in Waipukurau. Victor 4 vets were there as well as family and friends and this flagpole is now known as The Jack Williams Memorial Flagpole. Jack was the first Terrace School pupil to be killed in action.
It was a great day with many of the V4 boys there and the kind words spoken. The rain downpour came first, then the speeches, the blessings, the sunshine, some humidity and finally the sound of the incoming Huey with a flyover and landing on the school field. After the ceremony we all got together for some good cheer into the evening. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the special occassion. This was Jack's home turf and from here, he went on to meet some great and brave men. Patrick Bronte organised the entire event including the Flagpole and plaque. He's now writing a book on Jack so watch out for that when it comes. Contact me for updates if you need more information.
