Served two tours in Vietnam. First tour: sent from Terendak, Malaysia to 1 ARU in June 1968 after Morrie Dodson was wounded and John Webb left 1 ARU to command Dodson's 1 Platoon, V3 Company. In October 1968 replaced Ross Miller as commander of 2 Platoon, V3 Company. Wounded in action on 16 November 1968 – gunshot wound to right thigh – and evacuated back to Terendak about 10 days later.
Second Tour: attached to AATTV, November 1971 to November 1972. Spent first six weeks with three Australian instructors training South Vietnamese in night operations near My Tho in the Mekong Delta. Moved to Dat Do in Phuoc Tuy province when 1 ATF withdrew and served as an advisor with an infantry company operating in the former 1 ATF area.
