Joined the New Zealand Army in 1962. Retired in 1983 holding the rank of Major in RNZASC/RNZCT.
Served in Vietnam as Logistic Liaison Officer for 1ALSG, 1971–1972. Posted to Singapore as Supply Depot Commander for the New Zealand, Australian and British military forces 1974–1976. Returned to New Zealand and served in a number of staff appointments, attended and qualified at RNZAF Staff College, 1976–1983. Final appointment was as CO of 3 Transport Regiment RNZCT at Burnham Military Camp.
