Entered the military via Compulsory Military Training (CMT), possibly serving in the Otago and Southland Regiment. Served in Malaya with New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) Squadron, 1955–1957. Left the New Zealand Army before re-enlisting from the Territorial Force (TF) and serving in Vietnam with Victor 3 (V3) Company, 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR), 1968–1969. Died and buried in Te Awamutu.
