Served in the New Zealand Army, September 1962 to April 1983. Changed Corp to Royal New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps (RNZAOC) in 1979 when the Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport (RNZCT) was created.
Served in Vietnam with Headquarters Vietnam Force (HQ V Force) from July 1965 to March 1966 when he was posted for six weeks to Headquarters New Zealand Force (HQ NZ Force) in Singapore. On return to Vietnam was posted to the Logistic Support Element (LSE) until returning to New Zealand in November 1966.
Served in 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR) in Singapore, October 1971 to November 1973.
