Served at Binh Dinh province hospital in Qui Nhon, 1969–1970, and the Minh Quy hospital at Kontum, 1972–1975. Worked in Papua New Guinea and Zambia, before joining a mission hospital in Bangladesh in 1979. He was medical officer at various Bangladeshi hospitals and clinics, including the Church of Bangladesh Thanarbaid Clinic (1983–2004) and Kailakuri Health Care Project (2004–2015). Awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in 1999 for services to humanitarian aid.
