Public Health Service Medal 2nd Class (SVN)

Notes

Studied at the Dunedin School of Medicine then joined the RNZAF in 1967. Trained as a pilot and worked as a flying personnel medical officer at the Aviation Medicine Unit (AMU) at Hobsonville. Served in the NZSMT for six months at Bong Son, 1968-1969, and then returned to the AMU.

From late 1970 worked as a medical registrar in Christchurch before heading to the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) to train as a respiratory physiologist. Returned to lecture at the Christchurch Clinical School before going back to UCSD, where he helped developed pulmonary experiments conducted in NASA Spacelab's SLS1, SLS2 and D2. Taught at UCSD until retirement in 2004.
