Enlisted 1 September 1964 and discharged 31 August 1973. Served with 1RNZIR 1965–1966 including Borneo, posted to 1st Ranger Squadron, NZSAS 2 March 1967 and served in Vietnam with 4 Troop NZSAS 1968–1969 and 1970–1971. Wounded in action, 6 August 1969 – fragment wounds to right knee.
