Enlisted in New Zealand Army in January 1962. Attended Officer Cadet School Portsea in 1963, graduating as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal New Zealand Corps of Signals. Commanded 4 Troop NZSAS in Vietnam, December 1968 to December 1969.
Completed staff appointments at Army General Staff and HQ 1 Task Force Papakura. Resigned from Army in October 1979 at the rank of Major. Lived in Australia from 1979 to 1995. Returned to New Zealand in 1995 and has worked in Education and Training/Industry Training sector since. Past President of Ex-Vietnam Services Association.
