Nuki was leader and multi instrumentalist with the Maori Volcanics showband that first toured in Vietnam May 1965 to April 1966 based in Da Nang, then again in 1969 based in Saigon with his first wife Mahora. Deceased, his medals were awarded by the Governor General HE Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae at Government house Auckland on 20 July 2016 to his widow (Mrs Pam Waaka).
