Enlisted in the Regular Force (RF) in 1955 as a Vehicle Mechanic. Posted to Vietnam in 1965 with the Logistical Support Element (LSE) attached to 161 Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery (RNZA). Served in various Royal New Zealand Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
(RNZEME) postings on return to New Zealand, including at Waiouru. Retired from 1 Base Workshop at Trentham in 1979 at the rank of Staff sergeant.
