Served in the RNZSigs, 1959-1968. Attached to 161 Battery RNZA as Sergeant drill instructor, 1965-1966. Deployed to Vietnam with the Battery in 1966 (with BSM Steve Parker) and seconded to the Australian 145 Signal Squadron and 110 Signal Squadron for nine months. Initially based at the 145 Sig Sqn Communication Centre in Cholon, Saigon; then later at the 110 Sig Sqn Communication Centre in Vung Tau.
