Served in the New Zealand Army and Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) during the Second World War. Flew in and out of Bien Hoa, Vietnam as Wing Commander on 40 Squadron C-130 with Flight Lieutenant Carey Adamson, 9 April 1966.
Later Commander of New Zealand Force South East Asia (NZ Force SEA) in Singapore, January 1973 to December 1975. Retired at the rank of Air Commodore. Awarded Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) and Air Force Cross (AFC).
