The Briefing poem by Alastair MacKenzie 'WM'

Vietnam poem from 1970–1971

I glimpsed a photo on my wall
Which stopped me in my tracks!
Was I really there at all?
Are those the actual facts?

Kneeling beside my friend,
Who did not make it home.
His patrol was at an end
We now planned where I roam.

We did our task,
We did it well.
“Why?” We did not ask
Now we dream where shadows dwell.

RIP. Lt John Winton RNZIR
