Binh Loi orphanage

V Force commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Rob Smith and his wife [centre], visit the Binh Loi orphanage on the outskirts of Saigon, circa 1967.

The couple was there to distribute clothing and toys sent from New Zealand by the Staff Sergeant Grigg Vietnamese Orphanage Appeal. This appeal had been established after a report and pictures by Grigg of a visit he made to the Roman Catholic orphanage were published in the New Zealand press. The appeal was named after Grigg following his death in December 1965. By the time it finished in early 1973, the appeal had raised more than $12,000, and provided several large consignments of clothing.
