Scotty Wingfield is searching for 41 Squadron’s ‘lost’ Vietnam War Veterans.
On the 16th November 1968 a malaria reduced and physically exhausted platoon of fifteen (normally 30) men from V3 Coy blundered into an enemy camp and were badly shot up.
Gallantry awards - depends what is left in the pot
Awards for gallantry for Kiwis depended upon what was in the pot left over from the Aussies awards. I didn’t think gallantry medallic recognition was meant to be given according to ‘only three of them; two of them – and maybe one of those in our medal box’ but on the level of gallantry?!

I worked in Vietnam as a nurse on the international Save the Children Fund team (UK, Norway, NZ) 11 Dec 1974 to 5 April 1975 when evacuated.
I was the officer in charge of HQ NZATGV (AKA HQ NZ V Force) during the withdrawal of NZ forces from Vietnam.
It was not experimental, so they say.In the search for a new preventative malarial medication, it has been claimed that US authorities investigated some 2100 agents, and dapsone was chosen. Dapsone had been considered during World War II but was discarded as an option.
